Fitness Feature

I am August's CLIENT OF THE MONTH at my gym. I joined in October of last year to focus on my health and fitness and gain accountability. It has been a huge and unexpected transformation!

What inspired you to reach out to Orange Shoe? When I reached out to Orange Shoe, I hoped that I would find a new level of fitness accountability because I knew I needed to prove to someone else that I was progressing. I have better willpower with exercise and nutrition when I'm working in tandem. My initial goals were to develop a regular, sustainable workout routine. I had no idea that my goals would morph and that there was so much potential for growth. I love how when I'm going to Orange Shoe every week, I feel like I'm visiting friends, and I'm thrilled that with Kelly and Tom's help I have become stronger than ever before! I'm 25 pounds lighter and have endurance and stamina I never dreamed possible. Tell us more about yourself! I am originally from here, and I moved back home about 5 years ago to care for my mother who has Alzheimer's disease. Previously, I worked as a professional stage actress for ten years, and now I am an at-home caregiver for my mom and my 3 year old son. I also stay busy working online as the Business Director for Radiant Jane Retreatsa meditation/yoga retreat company. My husband and I value holistic health, so our whole family is vegan, and I also sell safer, toxin-free skincare products so they can be more accessible to everyone. I love to knit, bake, and read in our hammock. What are you looking forward to this summer/early fall despite the world looking a bit different now?  My husband, son, and I love to slow down in nature, and we get away when we can to camp in our itty bitty trailer. We also are working on plans to build a tiny house up north in the next year. I regularly volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association - the Walk to End Alzheimer's is coming up on October 4th! I just wrote and published a brand new children's book for little kids who love someone with Alzheimer's or dementia called "You Make It Better." What are you currently reading/watching/listening to? I just finished watching the new Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. I'm also laughing my way through Schitt$ Creek for the 1st time and binge watching Gilmore Girls for the 521st time! I always juggle a variety of books, so I'm reading the Book of Awakening (daily meditations by Mark Nepo), Bleeding Hearts (an Alzheimer's memoir), Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi, a short story anthology by Zora Neale Hurston, and Codename Villanelle (the novel that Killing Eve is based on.) For podcasts, I love Rip Esselstyn's "Plant-Strong" and have recently been obsessed with GURU and Missing in Alaska. If you had all the money you could ever want...how would you like to spend your days?

I have always worked in the arts and for nonprofits, so it's essential for me to work in a mission driven career. My husband and I dream of being tiny-living minimalists who own rural land with a gorgeous view, preferably by a river or lake. I would love to visit all the national parks and revisit Europe where I used to live. If I were wealthy, I'd invest as much money as I could to help find a cure for Alzheimer's, donate to keep the arts thriving, and help as many fellow humans as possible to strive for equity for all.
